About HPSP Army Scholarships
Founded more than 40 years ago, these scholarships have helped thousands of promising service providers to receive an education of their choice. The scholarships vary slightly depending on the branch chosen. For future and current medical school students, the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) offers two-, three- and four-year military scholarships. The HPSP covers civilian medical school tuition, pays for fees, provides a monthly living stipend, and includes a signing bonus under certain conditions. Prospective students compete for scholarships that cover some or all of the medical school years. The Air Force offers one- to four-year scholarships, the Army offers one- to four-year scholarships and the Navy offers three to four-year scholarships. While on scholarship, the financial expenses of tuition, certain academic fees, a monthly stipend, mandatory books and equipment, and a laptop rental are paid by the student’s sponsoring service.

Regardless of the three programs for which you are applying, they all require a postgraduate service commitment. This means that you will receive the lieutenant or captain after completing your professional program. Interns and residents in clinical psychology can be put into active service if they are admitted to a civilian or military hospital during their training program. For each year the student borrowed money for their program, the service commitment is one year. Students receive a full salary for the duration of their pension commitment. In addition, you have the advantage of not having living expenses and a guaranteed job when you finish your program. The disadvantage is that your salary may be lower than if you were interviewed for non-government jobs.
