Eligibility For The Mitchell Scholarship
Candidates must complete a number of key criteria in order to apply for this scholarship. The first is that the applicant must be between 18 and 29 years old. Secondly, candidates must obtain an undergraduate degree before starting their studies under the Mitchell Scholarship Program. In addition, only US citizens can apply for this scholarship. Married students may apply for a scholarship, but will not receive additional funding to cover the travel or living expenses of their spouse.
How To Apply For The Mitchell Scholarship
The application process for this award starts soon enough. The application cycle starts in April and ends on September 30th. However, students must obtain confirmation from their home university and the recognition period is often prior to this deadline. Candidates selected as semifinalists will be invited to an interview with Skype. These interviews will take place at the end of October. A finalist weekend will take place in mid-November. In order to complete an application, students need a set of documents to support their application. Students must provide proof of US citizenship, their current grade point average, information on their distinctions, rewards and community service activities, as well as contact information for the endorser of their home institution. In addition, students can choose three programs in three different institutions. In addition, candidates need contact information from four different people they know well and who are willing to serve as an official recommendation for the candidate. In addition to the material above, students must submit a photo similar to that taken for passports. A personal statement that cannot exceed 1000 words is required. The candidate, however, must submit a completely new application, including all supporting letters and materials. The Mitchell Scholarship Program provides full tuition, housing, and a monthly living stipend (currently $1250 USD) for up to one year (12 months) of post-graduate academic study in Ireland. Most programs run for nine months. Up to three additional months of stipend will be provided, if required by the program (for a maximum of 12 months). One round-trip airline ticket between the United States and Ireland is also provided. Each Mitchell Scholar is responsible for securing and financing his or her own health insurance while abroad.
